Application Details

In high-traffic areas such as hotels, airports, shopping malls, business centers, theaters, etc., the physical properties of the materials that are used in a tile installation are as important as the aesthetics. The design of these areas require very durable materials that are resistant to breakage, scratching and daily wear-and-tear. Despite its relative newness, the popularity of porcelain has been growing quickly due to its exceptional physical properties. The water absorption rate of porcelain is close to zero, making it impervious and eliminating the threat of staining. Its surface hardness and breakage resistance is higher than natural granite, and its colors do not fade when exposed to ultraviolet light. It can be produced at a thickness of 8-10 mm, and compared to other materials, porcelain adds less weight to a structure.

In order to respond to growing worldwide demand, the Kale Group became the first company in Turkey to produce porcelains. Our improved technology makes it possible to produce more durable and higher quality porcelains. Its technical characteristics make it an exceptionally qualified building material. It is for this reason the Kale Group has increased its investment in porcelains, channelling funds into research and development that create new colors, sizes, formats and improves production techniques.

Porcelains come in matte, polished and glazed pieces of 30x30, 40x40, 30x60, 40x60, 40x80, 50x50, 60x60, 50x100, 60x120 and 60x140. Production runs consist of about 30 colors and shapes.

The following are suitable areas for the usage of porcelain tiles:

  • External facades
  • Floors of high traffic areas for commercial applications
  • Stairs
  • Elevator facings
  • Interior wall surfaces
  • Kitchen and bathroom countertops, etc.

Follow these instructions when applying Kalebodur porcelain tiles on floors:

  • Make sure that all of the ceramic tiles are of the same color, shade and size.
  • If the unevenness of the floor is more than 3 cm., it is usually covered with a cement mortar bed. If not, Kalekim Tamir Art is applied to even out or level the floor. To compensate for an unevenness of 1 cm, use the Granitech Adhesive that is used to install the porcelain tiles.
  • Before installing porcelain tiles on a floor, it is recommended that a coating of Kalekim be applied in order to eliminate dust and increase adherence.
  • The Kalebodur Porcelain is applied by using the back buttering method. Kalekim Granitech adhesive is applied on both the floor and the back of the porcelain tile. Care should be taken to apply the adhesive to all surfaces to achieve 100% coverage.
  • The grout joint width 2mm minimum, 6mm maximum. Also, the wall linings movement joints should have a space of 1 cm wide.
  • The surface should be cleaned after a period of 24 hours following the completion of the porcelain tile application. Prior to grouting the porcelain tiles, you may apply the Kalekim SeraCare surface sealer to protect the material and facilitate the removal of dirt and stains.

Once you complete this procedure and wait for another 24 hours, you may proceed with the Kalekim FugaFlex 1-6 mm grout joint.
